Project Description:
Set along a wooded hillside with expansive views toward Lookout Mountain, this project consists of a small collection of four cabins and a shared outdoor amenity building designed to support quiet retreat and communal gathering. The site planning responds directly to the slope, views, and natural landscape, allowing each building to engage the terrain while maintaining privacy and visual separation.
Three of the cabins are configured as one-bedroom units, with a fourth cabin providing a two-bedroom layout. Each cabin includes a compact kitchenette, a covered front porch, and a rear porch with glass railings oriented toward the valley and mountain views beyond. These outdoor spaces extend the living area and reinforce a strong connection to the surrounding landscape.
The cabins are arranged around a series of shared exterior spaces, including a central fire pit and a combined outdoor kitchen and laundry building. This layout encourages informal interaction while preserving a sense of retreat within each individual unit. Garden walls at the front of each cabin define semi-private outdoor rooms, offering a transition between shared circulation and private interior space.
The architectural forms are intentionally simple and efficient, allowing the buildings to sit lightly on the hillside while maximizing views, daylight, and constructability. Through careful siting, restrained detailing, and a focus on outdoor living, the project creates a balanced environment that supports both solitude and community within a compact, view-driven setting.
