RED BANK HOUSE #1
ROLE: ARCHITECT
Project Type: Renovation Location: Red Bank, TN Phase: COMPLETE
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Red Bank House #1 is the thoughtful renovation of a historic home in Red Bank focused on adapting the house for a growing family while working entirely within the existing footprint. Rather than relying on an addition, the design strategy centered on rethinking the organization of the home to create a more open, functional, and connected living environment.
On the first floor, an existing bedroom was absorbed into a new primary suite, allowing for a more comfortable and private retreat. The main living spaces were carefully opened and connected to improve circulation and create a stronger relationship between the living room, dining area, and kitchen. The kitchen was expanded into a portion of the former living area, introducing bar seating and a more social, family-oriented layout. An original side porch was also incorporated into the conditioned space to create a light-filled breakfast nook connected directly to the kitchen.
Upstairs, interior walls were reconfigured to create a central living and gaming area for the children, with bedrooms positioned at opposite ends of the home for privacy and flexibility. Throughout the renovation, the challenge was not to make the house larger, but to make it work better—finding opportunities for openness, efficiency, and livability while preserving the character and scale of the original home.
